Ahhh the Sunshine Coast, Noosa’s sun-drenched glamour, pristine beaches, and the sparkling coastline. But there’s another story waiting to be told here, a story that unfolds away from the sand, in the rolling green hills of the hinterland.
This is where the region's creative heart beats - anchored by artisan producers, world-class chefs, and breathtaking natural beauty.
It’s a place that calls for a road trip, a slow and meandering journey of discovery. Mapping out the perfect ECSC weekend here, we connect the dots between the must-visit towns and their not-so-hidden treasures. This is our itinerary for a Sunny Coast Hinterland roadtrip unlike any other.
Begin in Maleny, a town with a proud history of co-ops and community. The first stop is non-negotiable: Maleny Food Co. It's a haven for food lovers, famous for its walk-in fromagerie, showcasing cheeses from around the world, and its award-winning gelato, crafted on site.

Next, a short drive to the Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve is essential. The view from the lookout, across to the majestic Glass House Mountains, is a chance to try and name each of the mountains. (Hint: the lookout sign has the answers). It is breathtaking any time of year and is a great reminder how ancient this landscape is.

From Maleny, continue along the scenic ridge to Mapleton. Here, the destination is the Mapleton Public House. This isn't just any country pub; it's a true paddock-to-plate operation with freshness from the owners Falls Farm, where they grow hyper-seasonal, harder-to-find produce that stars on Chef Cameron Matthew’s menu.

It’s a long-term commitment to community, sustainability and zero-waste cuisine. To sit on that historic verandah with a cold beer or wine, enjoying a dish that was harvested just down the road is nothing less than sublime.
For a truly special dinner, the final destination would have to be The Tamarind, the hatted restaurant at the stunning Spicers Tamarind Retreat. It’s renowned for its innovative, modern Asian cuisine that has earned it a stellar reputation far beyond the Sunshine Coast. Feasting in such a tranquil, rainforest setting is the very definition of destination dining.

And for the perfect place to rest your head? A stay in one of the forest villas at Spicers Tamarind Retreat is the ultimate indulgence, a luxurious sanctuary cradled by the luxh landscape. It’s makes a weekend away feel like a true escape.

This is the other side of the Sunshine Coast. Take time to listen, hear and breathe in the blissful landscape.
